How the Navidok came to be!
As Alex and I started traveling more in our van, we quickly discovered our lack of knowledge in effectively utilizing navigation systems. Naively relying on Google Maps, I assumed as long as the app remained open, we’d be on the right track. During one of our initial overlanding trips in California, journeying from our Kern River camp spot to Sequoia National Park, we learned the hard way! We reached a dead-end road with only a tiny Post Office nearby where we asked a local about the road ahead. She informed us that although possible, she hadn’t witnessed anyone taking the road in years! Frustrated, we had no other choice but to trace our steps back until we regained reception and devised an alternate route. Despite the setback, the scenic drive became a valuable lesson learned. Realizing the significance of proper navigation, we invested in a tablet and downloaded GIA GPS. Suddenly equipped with a tablet, two smartphones, a radio, and our Garmin InReach, a new challenge emerged: where would we fit all these devices? That’s when Alex, inspired by our experience, began designing the Navidok Overlander. Many design iterations later, we proudly introduce our final product, the Navidok!
